Natural gas component analysis is one of the significant technologies in the exploitation and utilization of natural gas. A stable and accurate online natural gas monitoring system is necessary for the gas extracting industry. We have developed an online monitoring system of natural gas with a novel hardware architecture. It improves the dependability and maintainability of the system. A specific instruction set is designed to facilitate the coordination of software and hardware. To reduce the sample noise, the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) method is used to preprocess the real-time raw data of the sensor array. A tailored neural network is designed for calibration. And the relationship between the performance and the structure of the gas neural network is demonstrated to find the optimal solution for accuracy and hardware scale. The design not only focuses on the optimization of individual components but also focuses on system-level improvement. The system has been running stably for several months in the gas fields. It meets the requirements of stability, ease of use, maintainability, and online monitoring in industrial applications....
With the rapid development of wireless communication technology and intelligent mobile devices, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) cluster is becoming increasingly popular in both civilian and military applications. Recently, a swarm intelligence-based UAV cluster study, aiming to enable efficient and autonomous collaboration, has drawn lots of interest. However, new security problems may be introduced with such swarm intelligence. In this work, we perform the first detailed security analysis to a kind of flocking-based UAV cluster with 5 policies, an upgrade version of the well-known Boids model. Targeting a realistic threat in a source-to-destination flying task, we design a data spoofing strategy and further perform complete vulnerability analysis. We reveal that such design and implementation are highly vulnerable. After breaking through the authentication of ad hoc ondemand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol by rushing attack, an attacker can masquerade as the first-arrival UAV within a specific scope of destination and generate data spoofing of arrival status to the following UAVs, so as to interfere with their normal flying paths of destination arrival and cause unexpected arrival delays amid urgent tasks. Experiments with detailed analysis from the 5-UAV cluster to the 10-UAV cluster are conducted to show specific feature composition-based attack effect and corresponding average delay. We also discuss promising defense suggestions leveraging the insights from our analysis....
Prediction of water resources for future years takes much attention from the water resources planners and relevant authorities. However, traditional computational models like hydrologic models need many data about the catchment itself. Sometimes these important data on catchments are not available due to many reasons. Therefore, artificial neural networks (ANNs) are useful soft computing tools in predicting real-world scenarios, such as forecasting future water availability from a catchment, in the absence of intensive data, which are required for modeling practices in the context of hydrology. These ANNs are capable of building relationships to nonlinear real-world problems using available data and then to use that built relationship to forecast future needs. Even though Sri Lanka has an extensive usage of water resources for many activities, including drinking water supply, irrigation, hydropower development, navigation, and many other recreational purposes, forecasting studies for water resources are not being carried out. Therefore, there is a significant gap in forecasting water availability and water needs in the context of Sri Lanka. Thus, this paper presents an artificial neural network model to forecast the inflows of one of the most important reservoirs in northern Sri Lanka using the upstream catchment’s rainfall. Future rainfall data are extracted using regional climate models for the years 2021–2050 and the inflows of the reservoir are forecasted using the validated neural network model. Several training algorithms including Levenberg–Marquardt (LM), BFGS quasi-Newton (BFG), scaled conjugate gradient (SCG) have been used to find the best fitting training algorithm to the prediction process of the inflows against the measured inflows. Results revealed that the LM training algorithm outperforms the other tests algorithm in developing the prediction model. In addition, the forecasted results using the projected climate scenarios clearly showcase the benefit of using the forecasting model in solving future water resource management to avoid or to minimize future water scarcity. Therefore, the validated model can effectively be used for proper planning of the proposed drinking water supply scheme to the nearby urban city, Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka....
External factors, such as social media and financial news, can have widespread effects on stock price movement. For this reason, social media is considered a useful resource for precise market predictions. In this paper, we show the effectiveness of using Twitter posts to predict stock prices. We start by training various models on the Sentiment 140 Twitter data. We found that Support Vector Machines (SVM) performed best (0.83 accuracy) in the sentimental analysis, so we used it to predict the average sentiment of tweets for each day that the market was open. Next, we use the sentimental analysis of one year’s data of tweets that contain the “stock market”, “stocktwits”, “AAPL” keywords, with the goal of predicting the corresponding stock prices of Apple Inc. (AAPL) and the US’s Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) index prices. Two models, Boosted Regression Trees and Multilayer Perceptron Neural Networks were used to predict the closing price difference of AAPL and DJIA prices. We show that neural networks perform substantially better than traditional models for stocks’ price prediction....
Face identification aims at putting a label on an unknown face with respect to some training set. Unconstrained face identification is a challenging problem because of the possible variations in face pose, illumination, occlusion, and facial expression. This paper presents an unconstrained face identification method based on face frontalization and learning-based data representation. Firstly, the frontal views of unconstrained face images are automatically generated by using a single, unchanged 3D face model. Then, we crop the face relevant regions of the frontal views to segment faces from the backgrounds. At last, to enhance the discriminative capability of the coding vectors, a support vector-guided dictionary learning (SVGDL) model is applied to adaptively assign different weights to different pairs of coding vectors. The performance of the proposed method FSVGDL (frontalization-based support vector guided dictionary learning) is evaluated on the Labeled Faces in the wild (LFW) database. After decision fusion, the identification accuracy yields 97.17% when using 7 images per individual for training and 3 images per individual for testing with 158 classes in total....
